Background 

 

Rural Education Foundation Uganda, REFU is a registered not for profit charity organisation that was created to solve the urgent need to reform and improve Education in the rural districts of Uganda. REFU was established in 2015 by two young women from Bukomansibi district, who were school dropouts because they became young mothers and they later rejoined school. 

 

REFU is committed to assisting school with no facilities, and assisting students who are orphans, from impoverished families and school dropouts. REFU partners with other local NGO’s, schools, local government, community groups, businesses and international organisations to ensure that its goals and objectives are achieved. REFU currently operates in four rural districts of Bukomansimbi, Nakasongola, Luwero and Nakaseke. 

 

REFU operates under three departments of Sciences in villages, Infrastructure in schools and School dropouts.

Building a self-reliant education environment by improving science subject performance in schools, developing infrastructure in schools and ensuring school dropouts go back to school. We achieve this by working with schools, the local government, community organisations and international organisations.
